How does it work?

DPL devices emit pulses of high-intensity light onto the surface of the skin. The light energy is in a narrowband spectrum, typically around 500-650nm, which is chosen to target specific skin issues effectively.

The targeted skin concern, such as pigmentation irregularities, redness, or collagen depletion, contains specific chromophores (substances that absorb light) that are sensitive to the chosen wavelength. When the DPL light hits the skin, these chromophores selectively absorb the light energy.

As the light energy is absorbed by the chromophores, it converts into heat energy. This heat energy serves several purposes:

  • For pigmentation issues: It can break down excess melanin (pigment) in the skin, reducing the appearance of spots and discoloration.

  • For vascular concerns: It can coagulate the blood vessels, reducing redness and visible veins.

  • For collagen stimulation: The heat promotes collagen production in the deeper layers of the skin, which can lead to improved skin texture and firmness.

  • For acne: The high-intensity light that can target and kill the bacteria responsible for acne breakouts

NIR stands for "near-infrared", which refers to the type of light energy the laser machine uses to penetrate the skin. It is a type of non-invasive aesthetic laser used for skin rejuvenation and tightening, often targeting areas with wrinkles, fine lines, and sagging skin.

  • Near-Infrared Light Technology (NIR): near-infrared wavelengths stimulate the deeper layers of the skin. The heat generated by this light can promote the production of collagen and elastin, which helps tighten the skin and improve its overall tone and texture.

  • Skin Tightening: It is often used for facial and body treatments to enhance skin firmness and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The procedure is typically non-invasive with minimal discomfort and downtime.

  • Collagen Stimulation: By applying heat to the dermis layer of the skin, the device triggers the body’s natural healing process, encouraging the production of new collagen and elastin, leading to smoother and firmer skin over time.

  • Common Uses: The treatment is popular for lifting and tightening sagging skin, especially on the face, neck, and décolletage areas. It can also be used for body contouring and improving skin texture overall.

Healing Process & Downtime?

The healing process and downtime for DPL photofacial treatment can vary from person to person, depending on factors like the individual's skin type, the specific condition being treated, and the intensity of the treatment. Here is a general overview:

  • Immediate Post-Treatment: After a DPL photofacial treatment session, it is common to experience some mild redness and warmth in the treated area. This typically subsides within a few hours to a day, and most people can resume their daily activities immediately after treatment.

  • Mild Swelling and Darkening: Some individuals may also experience mild swelling and temporary darkening of pigmented areas, such as sunspots or freckles. This can last for a few days, but it is generally not severe.

  • Peeling and Flaking: Depending on the specific skin condition being treated and the settings used during the procedure, you may notice some peeling or flaking of the skin in the treated area within a few days to a week. This is a natural part of the skin's healing process as it sheds damaged skin cells.

  • Multiple Sessions: Most individuals require a series of DPL photofacial sessions spaced several weeks apart to achieve the desired results. The healing process and downtime may be similar after each session.

  • Sun Protection: It's crucial to protect your skin from sun exposure during the healing process and afterward. Sunscreen with a high SPF should be applied daily to prevent further skin damage and maintain the results of the treatment.

  • Makeup and Skin Care: You can typically resume the use of makeup and your regular skincare products within a day or as advised by your provider.

  • Long-Term Results: The full benefits of DPL photofacial treatment may take several weeks to become apparent as the skin continues to regenerate and improve in appearance. Long-term results can be maintained with proper sun protection and skincare.

Overall, the downtime for DPL photofacial treatment is relatively minimal compared to more invasive cosmetic procedures. However, it's essential to follow the post-treatment care instructions provided by your healthcare provider and to have realistic expectations regarding the outcome.
